Biography
Hello! I'm Ms. Malik, and I'm thrilled to be your art teacher at Lindale Middle School. My journey as an artist began at a young age, and I've been passionate about creating and teaching art ever since. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from Stevenson University, where I developed my skills in design, color theory, and textile arts. After working in the fashion industry for a few years, I discovered my true calling was in education. This led me to pursue a Master of Education in Art Education from Towson University. As an AVID certified educator, I'm committed to helping all students develop the skills they need to succeed not just in art, but in all aspects of their education. I believe that art education is essential for developing creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression. In my classroom, I strive to create an inclusive environment where all students feel comfortable exploring their creativity. I'm excited to guide you through various art techniques, movements, and projects throughout the year!
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy centers around the belief that every student has creative potential that deserves to be nurtured. I approach art education with these core principles: 1. Art is for everyone. Regardless of natural talent or prior experience, all students can learn to express themselves through art. 2. Process over product. While creating beautiful artwork is rewarding, the learning happens in the process. I emphasize experimentation, problem-solving, and reflection. 3. Cultural relevance. Art education should connect to students' lives and experiences while also exposing them to diverse artistic traditions from around the world. 4. Technical skills and creative expression. I balance teaching fundamental techniques with encouraging personal expression and innovation. 5. Growth mindset. Making mistakes is part of the creative process. I encourage students to embrace challenges and learn from their experiences. In my classroom, you'll find a supportive community where we celebrate each other's growth and unique artistic voices.
